IAUE Receives Award at 66th Nigerian Economic Society Conference

The Vice-Chancellor of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Professor Okey Onuchuku, Rumuolumeni, Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, was presented with an award while chairing the Noble Laureate Plenary at the 66th Annual Conference of the Nigerian Economic Society (NES).

Professor Onuchuku emphasized that rethinking Africa’s development requires a strong integration of politics, including governance institutions, with economics. He explained that even well-designed economic policies based on robust micro and macroeconomic models will not achieve economic transformation if there is no political will to implement them—a challenge faced by many African countries.

The Professor of Econometrics, who previously served as Vice President of NES, further stated that achieving sustainable economic development in Africa, and Nigeria in particular, requires restructuring political and economic institutions to foster inclusive governance. He suggested integrating NES representatives into the country’s economic teams to ensure that sound economic policies are effectively implemented.
