The Acting Vice Chancellor of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) Professor Okechuku Onuchuku is now the new Paton of the Society for Chaplains in Nigeria, Myschoolnews gathered.

During a courtesy visit on the Chief Executive Officer on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at his office, the Leader of the Chapol Ambassador Doris Owelagba decorated him with the rank of Major General medal and accessories.

While presenting the certificate of honour to Professor Onuchuku, the Chapol stated that the award was in recognition of his academic and leadership excellence.

She noted that the group, a Non-Governmental Organisation and Paramilitary Agency serve as a moral voice to the nation and ministers to prison inmates in police cells, the orphans and those in tertiary institutions.

Ambassador Owelagba disclosed that they are saddled with the responsibility of teaching practical moral values in both secondary schools and tertiary institutions adding that some of them are priests in the force and into humanitarian services.

She solicited for partnership, synergy and collaboration to enable the society attain their set goals and objectives.

Responding, the Vice Chancellor of IAUE Professor Okechuku Onuchuku expressed appreciation to the group for the honour done him and emphasized that he would support any group that come up with programmes that would lead to societal growth and development. He hinted that the major task of the university is to mould, train and nurture good character and role models for the society stressing that when youths lack the moral values and training needed, that the society will be unstable and in very bad shape. 

The Vice Chancellor thanked them for the morals that they are instilling in youths and promised to collaborate with them to better the youths and make the society a better place for all.

He hoped that they would find time to talk to IAUE students about the negative impact of "get rich quick syndrome" and also to young girls who are easy preys to these set of people who use them for ritual purposes. This line of action he expressed optimism would change the perception of students about life and not to be carried away by what others are doing but to remain focused on their education.
