Indian Education Experts Visit LASU to Explore Collaborations

Lagos State University (LASU) welcomed two delegations from India on February 19, 2025, to explore academic collaborations. The first delegation, led by Col. Dr. G. Thiruvasagam of AMET University, discussed potential partnerships in joint degree programs, student and faculty exchanges, and research initiatives.

Lagos State University (LASU) reaffirmed its commitment to global partnerships as it hosted two high-profile delegations from India on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. The visits, aimed at strengthening internationalization and fostering academic collaborations, marked a significant step in LASU’s drive for global excellence.

The first delegation was led by Col. Dr. G. Thiruvasagam, Provost of the Academy of Maritime Education and Training (AMET) University, Chennai, India. Accompanied by Capt. V. Chandra Sekhar, Principal of AMET City College, the team engaged in discussions with LASU’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, and other university officials.

Col. Thiruvasagam highlighted AMET University’s reputation as one of India's premier maritime institutions, offering courses in Marine, Mechanical, and Petroleum Engineering, Shipping and Logistics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Robotics. He proposed collaborations in twin and joint degree programmes, faculty and student exchanges, and cultural interactions to enhance knowledge-sharing between AMET and LASU.

Prof. Olatunji-Bello welcomed the initiative and urged the AMET delegation to submit a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) outlining specific areas of cooperation to formalize their relationship.

Following this, another delegation representing Donias Global Consultants, an organisation working under India’s “Study in India” initiative, met with LASU management. Led by Diwesh Mishra, Director of the project, the team aimed to build educational ties between Nigeria and India, promoting student mobility, knowledge exchange, and capacity-building programs.

The discussion, facilitated by Prof. Olawale Lawal of LASU’s Department of History and International Studies, led to an agreement to draft an MoU outlining the framework for collaboration.
