In a bid to maintain a hygienic environment, students residing in Block C of Jibril Aminu Hostel, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS) sanitize the interior and exterior of their block in the early hours of Sunday, November 19, 2023.

The sanitation exercise includes opening of blocked water channels, cleaning cobwebs, washing of the toilet, washing of water tank and general sweeping of the environment

Speaking with this Reporter, Sharifideen Muhammad, a 400-level student of botany and Hall Governor of the block said, "we decide to sanitize the inside and outside of our block. Although the hostel workers are trying but they cannot go inside our rooms and clean our cobwebs we have to do that ourselves.

"I'm very happy about this development and it is something that I cannot do alone. Some people turn out in the exercise. The low turnout is also because today is Sunday, many people have programs to attend so they went inside school. Some of us are inside their rooms, I cannot force all of them to participate," he added.

A resident of the block, Ibrahim Dan Ali, a third year student of applied chemistry expressed pleasure over the sanitation. "We were told by the Hall Governor last week that he wants us all to come out on Sunday and sanitize the whole block

"This is about keeping our environment clean. Nobody is forced to do this, we are doing it for our own benefit and I'm very happy to be part of the activity," he concluded.
