Kebbi State Students’ Association (KESSA) of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), celebrated a cultural carnival on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the university's convocation theater.

The program comprised four Emirates of Kebbi: Yauri, Gwandu, Argungu, and Zuru, each displaying its diverse cultural background.

During the event, traditional practices showcased include; royal dressing, Fulani attire, tribal dances, playing with fire, and magic tricks where fish and money were produced through magic.

The Kebbi State Governor, His Excellency Dr. Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu), was represented by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Alh. Zayyanu Umar, who narrated his experience about the event. “When I received this invitation, I told myself that I would make sure to attend the program. It was indeed a pleasure for me to be here with you because I was once the KESSA President at Kebbi State University of Science and Technology Aliero (KSUSTA). I was also the pioneer president of the Students' Union Government (SUG) in KSUSTA. So, I know what unions are, and I value them,” he said.

He further stated that the Governor is a teacher himself and a lover of education so he always tries to honor any invitation from student leaders. He assured the students of their scholarship saying, “Concerning the issue of scholarships, I will try everything within my power to ensure that everything goes well.”

The Commissioner on behalf of himself, and the Executive Governor of Kebbi State donated five hundred thousand naira (500,000.00) to the association, which will be disbursed on Monday, unfailingly.

An award of recognition was presented to the Governor’s representative by the union for his effort during the payment of school fees for the students.

Speaking with the president of the association, Comrade Sama'ila Aliyu Bangu, expressed his excitement about the program and the way it became a reality. He said, “From the beginning, it was an idea, something that happened a long time ago, and since 2019 to 2022, it has not occurred, so, I hope the legacy will continue.”

He concluded his speech by thanking everyone who came out to show support for their program and how he had little expectations but the event turned out successfully, "I never thought it would be interesting like this, but the way people participate, and even some emirates sent their people to come and guide us through the processes, I am happy and grateful about it.
