Kogi Education Commissioner Commends Professor Avidime-Led Management for Progress at Kogi State Polytechnic

The Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Honourable Wemi Jones, has commended the management of Kogi State Polytechnic under the leadership of Rector, Professor Salihu Sanusi Avidime, for the developments recorded within its first few months in office.

Hon. Jones made the commendation on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, during an official working visit to the Polytechnic’s Main Campus in Lokoja, where he was received by the Rector and other principal officers of the institution.

The Commissioner expressed appreciation to the management for the reception accorded him and also praised the principal officers for their continued support and cooperation with the Rector.

According to him, effective administration of a tertiary institution requires collective responsibility, teamwork and commitment from members of the leadership.

Hon. Jones said he was aware of some of the achievements recorded by the Polytechnic before his visit, noting that several of the developments had already received attention in the media.

He particularly praised the institution for complying with the Ministry’s policy prohibiting sign-out activities, describing the measure as important to maintaining discipline and ensuring that students remain focused on their academic responsibilities.

The Commissioner urged the management to strengthen its oversight functions and remain committed to protecting the integrity of the institution.

He charged the leadership to continue carrying out their responsibilities diligently and provide the direction required to sustain the progress already recorded and position the Polytechnic for further development.

Responding on behalf of the management, the Rector, Professor Salihu Sanusi Avidime, expressed appreciation to the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for the confidence placed in the Polytechnic’s principal officers and for the continued support extended to the institution.

Professor Avidime described the Governor as an education-friendly leader, noting that the support of the Kogi State Government has played an important role in the development of the Polytechnic.

The Rector also commended Commissioner Wemi Jones for his contributions to the education sector, particularly his long tenure as Commissioner for Education in Kogi State.

Professor Avidime described the Commissioner’s tenure as notable, stating that he had served under two administrations and contributed to developments in the state’s education sector, including the initiation and completion of two state-owned universities.

The Rector used the occasion to highlight some of the achievements recorded by the current management within seven months.

Among the interventions, he mentioned the provision of two motorised boreholes, the renovation and modernisation of the Polytechnic Library and the ongoing construction of a 124-bed-space hostel at the Itakpe Campus.

Professor Avidime also drew attention to some of the challenges facing the institution and appealed for continued government support to address them.

He assured the Commissioner of the management’s continued commitment to supporting the Kogi State Government under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.

In a vote of thanks on behalf of the Polytechnic, the Registrar, Dr. Yahaya Segun Alilu, conveyed the institution’s appreciation to the Governor for what he described as his people-centred leadership and continued support for the Polytechnic.

The Registrar also pledged the institution’s continued support for the state government’s administration.

The Commissioner, who was accompanied by his Personal Assistant, Hon. Obafemi Rufus, used the working visit to engage the Polytechnic’s management on the institution’s progress, future prospects and challenges.

The visit also provided an opportunity to reaffirm the importance of continued collaboration between the Kogi State Ministry of Education and Kogi State Polytechnic in advancing educational development across the state.
