Kaduna State University Launches Antimicrobial Resistance Club to Combat Global Health Threat
Kaduna State University (KASU) has officially launched its Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Club, marking a significant step in addressing the growing global health concern.
The launch event, held in the university's 500-seater hall, drew members of the university community eager to engage with and learn about AMR.
Pharm. Ahmed Muhammad Suleiman, AMR Club mentor, emphasized the importance of raising awareness about AMR, particularly at the university level. Prof. Muhammad Bashir Ali, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, commended the initiative, reaffirming the university's commitment to supporting community well-being.
Zainab U. Bala, AMR Club president, outlined the club's vision and mission, focusing on promoting awareness, advocacy, and research related to health, society, economy, and environment.
Keynote speaker Dr. J.C. Igwe discussed the global AMR situation, its implications, and the roles professionals and students can play in combating it. Dr. Basira Lawal Kankia stressed the need for collaboration between medical and non-medical professionals to effectively address AMR.
Prof. J.A. Olaonapo, Provost of the College of Allied Health and Pharmaceutical Sciences, reflected on the presentations and challenges posed by AMR at local, national, and international levels.
This initiative underscores KASU's dedication to addressing critical global health issues and promoting student-led innovation.
