KASU Hosts 10th Annual Lecture in Honor of Late Pharmacist D.S. Wali

Kaduna State University (KASU) recently held the 10th annual lecture series in memory of the late Pharmacist Dahiru Suleiman Wali, FPSN. The event took place on Tuesday, 23rd July 2024, in the university's 1000-seater auditorium.

Themed "The Use of Herbal Medicine in Pharmacy Practice," the lecture was organized by the Pharm. D.S. Wali Book Project Committee. Pharm. (Alh) Abdul Yekini Daromosu, Chairman, Daro Pharmacy Ltd. Kaduna as well as the Chairman of the occasion, opened the event by expressing gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi I. Musa, for his support and for hosting the event. He praised the late Pharm. D.S. Wali for his exemplary life, contributions to humanity, and enduring legacy.

Prof. Helen A. Andow, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Strategy, Innovation, and Service Delivery, who represented the Vice-Chancellor welcomed guests and informed the gathering about the university's efforts to enhance teaching excellence, research, community engagement, infrastructure, and student-centeredness. She encouraged pharmacists to emulate the late Pharm. D.S. Wali's commitment to positively impact humanity. Pharm. Daniel Doshu Nok, representative of the Honourable Commissioner of Health, Kaduna State, also echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the need for continued dedication to healthcare improvement and the crucial role of pharmacists in community health.

Prof. Ahmed Tijjani Mora, Chairman of the Book Project Committee, provided a brief biography of Pharm. D.S. Wali and an overview of the lecture series, which began in 2015. He highlighted Wali's generosity, dedication, and love for humanity, noting his donation of half his book collection to the KASU Library.

The lecture was delivered by Prof. Hajara Ibrahim from the Department of Pharmacognosy and Drug Development at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. She discussed the types and uses of herbal medicine and emphasized the importance of proper regulation to prevent overdose. A question and answer session followed her presentation.

In recognition of her contributions, Prof. Ibrahim was awarded a plaque of excellence by the committee.

The former Commissioner of Information, Kano State, Alh. Salahudeen Na'ibi Wali, expressed gratitude on behalf of the family of the late Pharm. D.S. Wali to the Book Project Committee for maintaining their father's legacy and thanked Management as well as the university community for hosting the event.
