KASU Hosts Workshop on Digital Competency for Local Government Education Directors
Kaduna, Nigeria – Kaduna State University (KASU) recently hosted a two-day workshop aimed at enhancing digital competency among Local Government Education Directors. The event took place at the NOC Hall of the KASU Computer Center from October 3rd to 4th, 2024. Organized by System Strategic Integrated Service Limited in collaboration with KASU’s Distance Learning Institute (DLI), the workshop was themed “Empowering Educational Leadership through Digital Competency.”
The workshop’s primary objective was to empower educational leaders with the necessary digital skills to improve learning outcomes in Kaduna. In his welcoming address, Prof. Aminu Ladan Sharehu, Director of DLI, underscored the importance of digital skills for educational leaders. He highlighted the continuous support from the Kaduna State Governor for digital training initiatives and discussed the evolution of distance learning in Nigeria, emphasizing its role in enhancing educational access and quality.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa acknowledged the governor’s support in fostering a conducive environment for educational initiatives. He stressed the significance of technology in education, the need for adaptation to technological advancements, and the importance of accountability among leaders.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Yusha’u Ibrahim Ango noted that digitalization enhances educational quality by providing structure to education. Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Strategy, Innovation, and Service Delivery, Prof. Helen Afang Andow, commended Prof. Sharehu and his team for their efforts in promoting digital learning and encouraged participants to embrace these innovations.
The workshop featured breakout sessions where participants engaged in discussions on e-learning fundamentals and the evolving landscape of education in the 21st century. Key presentations included:
- Prof. Aminu Ladan Sharehu on the Evolution of Distance Learning in Nigeria and Quality Assurance in Distance Learning Management.
- Dr. Fatima Kabir on Technology-Enabled Distance Learning and Digital Content Creation and Courseware Development.
- Dr. Mohammed Bello Idris on Programme Planning Techniques for Effective Local Government Welfare Services.
- Mal. Mohammed Aliyu on the Application of Digital Skills in Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Government Education Systems.
- Mal. Haruna Saidu on ICT tools and apps relevant for e-learning.
- Mrs. Halima Usman on the use of Learning Management Systems.
- Mal. Lurwanu Usman on Data Management Techniques in Local Government Educational Administration.
The workshop aimed to equip educational leaders with the digital skills necessary to improve local governance and enhance the quality of education in Kaduna State.
