Kwame Nkrumah Special Awards Honour UNIDEL VC, Registrar and Bursar for Leadership and Institutional Reform

The Vice-Chancellor of University of Delta Agbor, Stella Chiemeke, alongside the institution’s Registrar and Bursar, has been conferred with the Kwame Nkrumah Special Award for Peace, Institutional Leadership and Community Development.

The recognition, presented on March 5, 2026, at the university’s Council Chambers in Agbor, was conferred by the African Network for Accountability, a Ghana-based accountability and governance advocacy body.

Also honoured were Registrar Richmond Omagbemi and Bursar Sunny Ikeogwu, both acknowledged for their roles in strengthening administrative coordination and financial governance within the institution.

Speaking during the ceremony, the organisation’s Country Director, Monday Azu, said the awards were based on the university’s growing institutional stability, improved administrative systems, and enhanced engagement with its host community under the current leadership structure.

He noted that the Vice-Chancellor’s administration had reinforced academic governance and operational efficiency, while describing the Registrar’s procedural discipline and the Bursar’s financial oversight as key pillars of institutional accountability.

ANFA also framed accountability as a broader governance principle tied to public trust, ethical leadership, and sustainable institutional systems, rather than mere regulatory compliance.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Chijioke Iyamah expressed appreciation for the recognition, describing it as validation of the university’s developmental progress since its establishment and first convocation.

ANFA officials present included Deputy Country Director Sandra Jonathan, South-South Coordinator Comrade Seb Ikpoza, and Media Coordinator Cynthia.

The organisation noted that the multi-recipient recognition marked a first in its award history, underscoring the role of coordinated leadership teams in driving institutional transformation across Africa’s higher education sector.
