Lagos State Government Increases Boarding Fees in Public Schools by 300%

The Lagos State Government has announced a 300% increase in boarding fees for public schools, raising the cost from N35,000 to N100,000 per term. The new fee structure, approved by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, will take effect from the 2024/2025 academic session.

The directive, issued by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, was communicated through a circular signed by Olufemi Asaolu, Director of Basic Education Services, on behalf of the Permanent Secretary. The circular instructed all public boarding school principals to implement the new fee and emphasized that no additional fees should be charged.

The resumption date for schools remains 15th September 2024. The fee hike comes as parents face increasing costs for educational materials ahead of the new school year.
