At the institution's inaugural Teaching Practice Summit, Dr. Foluke Akinkuotu emphasized the importance of practical teaching experiences in bridging the gap between theory and practice.

Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) is actively seeking collaborations with education stakeholders to enrich its students' teaching practice experience, aiming to expose them to diverse classroom settings and practical teaching environments.

At the institution's inaugural Teaching Practice Summit held on Tuesday, Dr. Foluke Akinkuotu, Acting Director of the Directorate of Teaching Practice, emphasized the significance of teaching practice as a fundamental element of teacher education. She highlighted the necessity for students to adapt to varied teaching contexts, manage time efficiently, and benefit from comprehensive mentorship and support.

“Teaching practice is where theoretical knowledge intersects with practical application,” Dr. Akinkuotu stated. “We are here today to address the challenges our student-teachers face, identify barriers, and develop innovative solutions to enhance their teaching experiences. This collaborative effort is essential for overcoming obstacles and improving educational outcomes.”

Prof. Bidemi Lafiaji-Okuneye, Vice-Chancellor of LASUED, represented by Prof. Moruf Dauodu, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), reiterated the university's commitment to becoming a leading, research-intensive institution. She announced that the first cohort of teaching practice students would begin their assignments within the week. “Our goal is to produce exceptional, globally-competitive education professionals,” Prof. Lafiaji-Okuneye said. “We urge stakeholders to provide feedback on what changes are needed and ensure students are well-prepared for their teaching roles.”

Adeniran Kasali, Permanent Secretary at the Lagos State Ministry of Education, underscored the importance of partnerships in producing quality educators. He advised students to be well-prepared and embody the values taught at the university. “Act as ambassadors of LASUED and apply your knowledge diligently in your teaching practice,” Kasali urged.

Prof. Aremu Fakolade from the Department of Special Education at the University of Ibadan encouraged students to maintain professionalism and passion for teaching. “To make a meaningful impact, be well-prepared and passionate about your role as educators,” Prof. Fakolade advised.
