Lagos State University Removes Dean of Student Affairs Amid Certificate Racketeering Probe

The Lagos State University (LASU) has removed its Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Tajudeen Olumoko, following allegations of certificate racketeering. These allegations surfaced through a news report published by an online news platform, which exposed a certificate racketeering syndicate offering genuine LASU certificates for sale, with prices ranging from N2 million to N3 million, depending on the technicality of the course.
Dr. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, a senior lecturer in the Department of Political Science, has been appointed as the acting Dean of Student Affairs, taking over from Prof. Olumoko.

The Lagos State House of Assembly has also announced its intent to investigate these allegations of extortion and certificate racketeering within LASU. This investigation is likely to involve summoning key figures, including the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr. Tolani Akibu, and the Vice-Chancellor of LASU, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, to address these concerns.
