LASU 13th Governing Council Inspects LASUCOM; Pro-Chancellor Pledges Strategic Growth and Staff Welfare
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of 13th LASU Governing Council, Mr. Babatunde Ogala (SAN), has assured staff that the University is entering a new phase of focused leadership and coordinated development, following an oversight visit by the 13th Governing Council to LASUCOM on Monday 2nd March, 2026.
Speaking during the inspection tour, Mr. Ogala said the Council has agreed on a clear direction for the institution and that tangible results will soon be visible across the University.
“We have sat down as a team, and in a short time you will begin to see the direction in which the institution is heading. It will be a collective drive towards that purpose,” he said.
He also disclosed that significant progress has been made towards the domestication of the new Federal Government and ASUU agreement in the University, describing it as a major step towards improving staff welfare and industrial harmony.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji Bello (mni, NPOM) described the visit as a critical oversight function that reinforces accountability and quality assurance within the University system.
She commended the dedication of Council members and said their role in enforcing good governance, ensuring timely delivery of projects and promoting prudent resource management remains central to the institution’s progress.
According to her, the presence of the Governing Council on campus sends a strong signal about leadership commitment and standards.
She added that LASU is positioning itself as a beacon of innovation in teaching and research, while assuring that Management is committed to securing and sustaining full accreditation for all academic programmes.
In his welcome address, the Provost of the College, Prof. Olufemi Idowu briefed the Council on ongoing reforms and infrastructure planning within the College.
He explained that the College is currently preparing for major resource and accreditation assessments and is undergoing a strategic spatial transformation aimed at decongesting the main campus.
As part of this plan, the College is strengthening with satellite campuses at Yaba and Gbagada to improve space utilisation and expand capacity for training and research.
“We are proud of how far we have come, and even more conscious of where we are heading,” the Provost said, noting that the reforms are designed to create a better learning and working environment for students and staff.
Members of the Governing Council toured key academic and support facilities in the College and interacted with Management on priority needs, infrastructure gaps and funding pressures.
They covered laboratories, the medical libraries, lecture theatres and research facilities in molecular biology and genetics. They also inspected ongoing hostel construction and renovation works, as well as the Sports Complex and the TETFund Building housing teaching and security infrastructure.
The visit forms part of the Council’s broader familiarisation and needs-assessment tour of LASU’s campuses and colleges, as it sets the tone for its tenure.
