LASU and UNILAG Converge for Pre-FASU Seminar Ahead of Joint Hosting of Africa Universities Games
LASU and UNILAG recently convened at LASU's campus for the Pre-FASU Seminar, gearing up for the joint hosting of the Africa Universities Games.
The atmosphere of healthy competition was briefly reignited between two leading universities in Lagos State, Lagos State University (LASU) and the University of Lagos (UNILAG), as they gathered at the campus of LASU for the Pre-FASU Games Seminar on Tuesday, March 26th, 2024.
The purpose of the Pre-FASU Seminar was to facilitate the collaboration of the organizing committees of both institutions in preparation for the All Africa Universities Games (FASU), themed Lagos 2024. The event is scheduled to take place from September 20th to 29th, 2024.
Addressing the attendees, the host of the event, LASU's Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, emphasized that hosting such a prestigious event not only underscores the universities' dedication to promoting sports but also celebrates the diverse talent present within the African continent.

Expressing confidence in the joint effort of the organizing committees, Prof. Olatunji-Bello stated, "With the caliber of individuals appointed to serve on the various sub-committees, success is inevitable. As members of the organizing committees, you bear a significant responsibility – to ensure the smooth and successful execution of this historic event. Failure is not an option."
She urged unity among committee members, emphasizing the goal of hosting the best-ever university games while aiming for victory. Prof. Olatunji-Bello extended gratitude to Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for his support towards the success of the competition.
Co-hosting the event, UNILAG's Vice Chancellor, Prof. Folashade Ogunsola, echoed similar sentiments regarding the aspiration to host an exceptional event. She emphasized the importance of bringing together young people from across Africa to collaborate and excel, highlighting the significance of building bridges for the future.
Prof. Ogunsola concluded, "It is wonderful that we are here today to kickstart LASU's hosting and to announce to everyone our commitment to hosting the best games ever."
Participants at the seminar were treated to insightful lectures by Mr. Bola Orodele, the former Secretary General of NUGA, Prof. Iyiola Oni from the Centre for Multi-Modal Transport Studies at UNILAG, and Prof. Clement Fasan, the Programme Director of the International Olympic Committee Advanced Sports Management Course (ASMC) in Nigeria. Following the lectures, the committees were divided into sessions for effective engagement.
This joint hosting of the FASU Games marks a historic occasion, being the first time two universities in the same state will be hosting such a prestigious competition.
