This commitment to excellence was highlighted on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, when the Vice Chancellor hosted Asein Patience Angel Osariemen, a 500 Level student from the Department of Fisheries, who successfully broke the Guinness World Record for the longest reading aloud marathon (Read-A-Thon).

Osariemen's remarkable achievement involved reading aloud continuously for 230 hours over a span of 10 days, from February 26 to March 7, 2024.

Expressing her admiration for Osariemen's accomplishment, Prof. Olatunji-Bello welcomed the bibliophile and her team to her office at the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building on the main campus in Ojo. She remarked, "This is a remarkable feat of which we are immensely proud. At a time when the reading culture among youths is waning, your ability to sustain continuous reading for 230 hours is a significant step towards revitalizing reading habits among young people."

She continued, "Your achievement not only brings honor to your name but also shines a positive spotlight on our university. LASU is home to exceptional talents, and it is our responsibility to provide them with the necessary support to thrive. I believe your accomplishment will serve as motivation for your peers and inspire all of us to pursue our goals with determination."

In recognition of her courage and resilience, the Vice Chancellor presented Osariemen with a cash reward, souvenirs, and a plaque.

Prof. Moses Akanbi, the Dean of the Faculty of Science, who led the faculty's delegation to the event, praised Prof. Olatunji-Bello for her visionary leadership. He stated, "Our aspiration is for LASU to be recognized as the best in West Africa, and we are making significant strides in various areas. The global recognition LASU is gaining is a result of the Vice Chancellor's vision, and we appreciate her commitment to rewarding excellence.
