In a bid to enhance the effectiveness of Nigeria's academic institutions, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, a former Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University (LASU), has emphasized the necessity for a proactive approach to integrating these institutions with communities and businesses.

Speaking at the 21st annual public lecture and luncheon of the Lagos Chapter, Obafemi Awolowo University Muslim Graduates’ Association (UNIFEMGA), Prof. Fagbohun underscored the importance of adequately funding educational institutions to equip Nigerian students with competitive skills in the global economy.

Addressing the theme "Harnessing Opportunities For A New Nigeria", Prof. Fagbohun stressed the need for comprehensive reform efforts targeting the entire educational system rather than sporadic disconnected initiatives. He highlighted creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication as essential skills for today's learners, emphasizing the importance of aligning educational curricula with these principles.

While acknowledging recent positive developments at the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Prof. Fagbohun emphasized the urgency of a more proactive approach to integration between academic institutions, communities, and businesses.

He urged strategic planning efforts to prioritize this integration, recognizing it as crucial for driving national development and ensuring graduates are adequately prepared to meet the demands of the modern workforce.
