According to the Vice-Chancellor, academic staff often become deeply engaged in lectures, clinical responsibilities, research activities, grant pursuits, publications, and administrative duties, sometimes losing sight of the institution’s collective mission. He urged participants to use the retreat as an opportunity to reconnect with the core values and responsibilities that define veterinary education and practice.

Professor Kehinde emphasised the strategic importance of Veterinary Medicine in addressing contemporary global challenges, particularly in the areas of animal health, public health protection, food security, and environmental sustainability. He noted that the discipline plays a critical role within the global One Health framework, which promotes integrated approaches to human, animal, and environmental health.
