The Lagos State University (LASU) today marked a historic milestone with the commencement of the 11th All Africa University Games, Lagos 2024. The event also coincides with the third anniversary of Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello's appointment, adding a special significance to the occasion.

In a statement delivered to an audience of esteemed colleagues and students, Professor Olatunji-Bello expressed her excitement, calling the day a "watershed in the history of our great university." She highlighted the institution's progress over the past three years under her leadership, noting the collective efforts that have strengthened LASU's reputation both nationally and globally.

“We have reshaped the narrative of our institution and elevated its standing. The hosting of the 11th FASU Games, which begins today, is a testament to that achievement,” she said.

The Vice Chancellor also reflected on the challenges and accomplishments during her tenure, including securing programme accreditations, inaugurating new faculties, improving infrastructure, and fostering a research-driven culture. She praised the university community for maintaining industrial harmony and advancing LASU’s academic profile.

On the anniversary of her assumption of office, she thanked the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his leadership and support, along with the university’s governing council and staff for their dedication.

"Together, we have positioned LASU as the most sought-after university by prospective students in Nigeria," she remarked, while acknowledging the importance of the next phase of her administration in continuing LASU's transformation.

As LASU welcomes participants from across Africa for the nine-day sporting event, Professor Olatunji-Bello called on the university community to ensure the games are a resounding success and a memorable experience for all involved.

The Vice Chancellor concluded her remarks with a call for unity and determination in achieving the shared goal of further enhancing the institution’s standing.

“We are LASU, We are Great!” she declared, as the university prepared to host Africa’s finest student athletes.
