LASU Pledges Stronger Support for Student-Led Initiatives as Hult Prize, JCI Teams Visit Vice-Chancellor
Lagos State University (LASU) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting student-led initiatives following separate courtesy visits from the Hult Prize and the Junior Chamber International (JCI) LASU Chapter to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, on Wednesday, 25th February 2026, at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, Main Campus, Ojo.
Lagos State University (LASU) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting student-led initiatives following separate courtesy visits from the Hult Prize and the Junior Chamber International (JCI) LASU Chapter to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, on Wednesday, 25th February 2026, at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, Main Campus, Ojo.

The delegations presented their initiatives and explored opportunities for deeper collaboration with the University to enhance student development.
The Hult Prize team, led by Campus Director Sheriffdeen Ashiru, a 300-level Computer Science student, commended the Vice-Chancellor’s administration for fostering an environment that supports innovation, enterprise, and student initiatives. Sheriffdeen Ashiru described the Hult Prize as a global competition that challenges young people to develop scalable, sustainable social enterprises addressing pressing global issues. He highlighted campus activities, operational challenges, and sought enhanced collaboration to enable more LASU students to benefit from the initiative.
Responding on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Oseni Taiwo Afisi, FSPSP, praised the team’s vision and commitment. He observed that their drive reflects the leadership potential of LASU students and aligns with the University’s goal of producing globally competitive graduates. He encouraged the team to remain ambitious and assured them of the University’s readiness to support and expand their impact.
Shortly afterward, the JCI LASU Chapter, led by Chapter President Miss Suliat Mogaji, a 300-level Philosophy student, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor. Miss Mogaji expressed gratitude for the enabling environment and sought further institutional backing to scale JCI’s programmes and deepen its impact on campus and beyond.
Professor Afisi commended the delegation for their contributions to leadership development and community engagement, urging them to intensify awareness campaigns to broaden student participation. He reaffirmed the University’s commitment to providing the access and support required for JCI to achieve its objectives.

At the conclusion of the visits, both teams presented gifts to the Vice-Chancellor. Mr Olaniyi Jeariogbe, Chief Public Relations Officer and staff adviser for both organizations, was also in attendance. The visits ended with a vote of thanks delivered on behalf of the Registrar, Mr Emmanuel A. Fanu, by the Deputy Registrar and Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Lateef Salami.
