LAUTECH is gearing up for its 16th convocation ceremony, where 99 students will receive first-class degrees out of the 4,749 first degrees to be awarded.

Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, is set to celebrate its 16th convocation ceremony, where 99 students will be awarded first-class degrees. The acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Rasaq Kalilu, announced this during a press conference held at the Senate Building of the institution on Wednesday.

Out of the 4,749 first degrees to be awarded next Monday, 99 students have excelled with first-class honors. Additionally, 1,363 students will graduate with second-class upper honors, 2,580 with second-class lower honors, and 597 with third-class honors.

Olagoke Olopade, from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, stands out as the overall best-graduating student with a GCPA of 4.86. He will be honored during the convocation ceremony.

Acknowledging the support of the Visitor to the university and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, Prof. Kalilu credited Makinde’s unalloyed support for the institution's growth and resilience.

Under Makinde’s leadership, the university has navigated challenges and continued to expand. This growth includes infrastructural upgrades, including the renovation of large lecture theatres, completion of a TETFund-sponsored Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences Building Complex, and construction of high-impact student hostels.

LAUTECH researchers have achieved remarkable success, securing N203,081,810.99 in national and international grants. Prof. Kalilu attributed this success to hard work and the conducive environment provided by the university's management.

As part of the convocation activities, the university will confer honorary doctorates on distinguished personalities. The sixth and current Chancellor of LAUTECH, Sir Ohna Sergeant Chidi Awuse, the paramount ruler of Emuoha Kingdom, Rivers State, will receive a Doctor of Business Administration (honoris causa).

Barrister Ahmed Raji (SAN) and Engr. Adeyinka Ajao will also be honored with Doctor of Civil Law (honoris causa) and Doctor of Technology (honoris causa) respectively.
