MCAN Northeast Zone Seeks UNIMAID Support Ahead of 2026 Bi-Annual Convention

The Muslim Corps Members Association of Nigeria, MCAN, Northeast Zone, has sought the collaboration and support of the University of Maiduguri, UNIMAID, as preparations gather pace for its 2026 Northeast Zonal Bi-Annual Convention.

The MCAN delegation, on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, to discuss areas of partnership and institutional support for the forthcoming event.

Speaking during the visit, Mr. Yasir Usman thanked the Vice-Chancellor for his open-door leadership and consistent support for youth-focused initiatives. He described MCAN as a faith-based association operating under the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, committed to promoting moral values, leadership development, community service, and national unity among Muslim corps members.

He informed the Vice-Chancellor that the 2026 Northeast Zonal Bi-Annual Convention will be hosted in Maiduguri and will bring together Muslim corps members, alumni, academics, professionals, and other stakeholders from the six states of the Northeast.

The convention will be held under the theme: "Harnessing Faith, Artificial Intelligence, and Innovation for Ethical Leadership, Youth Empowerment, and Sustainable Development."

According to Mr. Usman, the event will feature keynote lectures, leadership and capacity-building sessions, youth empowerment discussions, innovation-focused engagements, and community health outreach programmes aimed at equipping participants with the skills and values needed to contribute meaningfully to national development.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, commended MCAN for its unwavering commitment to nation-building, peace, and ethical leadership. He described the convention's theme as timely and relevant, noting that the integration of faith, artificial intelligence, and innovation is essential in addressing today's social and economic challenges.

Professor Mele stressed that universities and youth organisations have a shared responsibility to prepare young people for a rapidly evolving, technology-driven world while ensuring they remain grounded in strong moral values.

He assured the delegation of the University's full support and collaboration, expressing confidence that the convention would provide a valuable platform for learning, networking, and inspiring innovative solutions to regional and national challenges.
