McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, has commended one of its distinguished alumni, Akogwu Bright Edoka, a First-Class graduate of the Department of Microbiology, for his exceptional humanitarian initiative tagged “Pad a Girl.”

Currently serving in Borno State under the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme, Edoka spearheaded the outreach at Government Technical Secondary School, Njimtilo, Konduga, Borno State, where he sensitized female students on menstrual hygiene and distributed sanitary pads to promote health, dignity, and confidence among adolescent girls.
Speaking during the event, Edoka highlighted the motivation behind the project, saying:

“Every month, countless girls in rural communities are forced to hide, use unsafe materials, or suffer in silence simply because they cannot afford sanitary pads. What should be a normal and natural experience becomes a time of discomfort, embarrassment, and isolation. You can help change that story.”
The outreach received support from several partners, including McPherson University’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francis Igbasan, Dr. Kayode Olomurewa, Barr. Tioluwani Francis, McPherson University Alumni Association, McU Champions, NCCF Borno State, NYSC, and Kashim Ibrahim University. The project also gained national recognition through coverage by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

In a statement issued by the University’s Public Relations Office, the management lauded Akogwu Bright Edoka for exemplifying the institution’s core values of service, excellence, and integrity. McPherson University reaffirmed its pride in alumni who continue to serve as agents of positive change within their communities and across the nation.
