McPherson University Celebrates 2025 Christmas Carol, Rewards Outstanding Staff for Excellence

McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, held its 2025 Christmas Carol of Seven Lessons, combining worship, celebration, and institutional recognition in a colourful ceremony at the Stephen & Hannah Obaro Multipurpose Hall.

The annual event brought together members of the University community, including management, academic and non-teaching staff, students, and pupils of the Staff School. The atmosphere was enriched with drama presentations by students and soul-lifting musical ministrations from both staff and students, underscoring the spiritual significance of the season.

Delivering his Christmas address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francis Igbasan, described the occasion as a moment of gratitude, reflection, and renewed hope. He noted that the University had recorded significant progress over the past year, attributing its achievements to the collective dedication and commitment of staff and students.

The Vice-Chancellor commended the Acting Registrar, the Bursar, and the University Librarian for their leadership and contributions during the year. He also praised academic and non-teaching staff for what he described as uncommon devotion to duty and excellence, stating that their efforts remain central to the University’s growth trajectory.

Addressing the students, Professor Igbasan described them as the champions and driving force of the institution, noting that their resilience and passion for learning continue to shape the University’s identity and future outlook.

Highlighting infrastructural development, the Vice-Chancellor announced the dedication of key facilities, including the Stephen & Hannah Obaro Multipurpose Hall and a modern health centre. He also disclosed that newly completed male and female hostels were now available to enhance student welfare and academic focus.

According to him, additional projects nearing completion include the second phase of the University cafeteria, an extension of the College of Allied Health Sciences, and another female hostel. He explained that these developments reflect the institution’s deliberate strategy to improve both learning and living conditions on campus.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of awards to outstanding staff members for the 2024/2025 academic session. The award recipients were Rev. Ibiwunmi Alo (University Chaplain), Miss Comfort Gomina, Mr. Babalola Oluwasegun, Miss Odunayo Seriki, and Mrs. Amos Oluwatosin, comprising two junior staff and three senior staff recognised for exceptional service and dedication.

Professor Igbasan concluded by appreciating the University Chaplain and the Chaplaincy Board for organising the programme. He encouraged members of the University community to embrace the spiritual essence of Christmas and extended best wishes for a peaceful festive season and a prosperous New Year.
