He affirmed the university's commitment to staff welfare, citing the salary increment as evidence.
McPherson University has implemented a significant increase in the salaries of both senior and junior staff, marking a 30% increment for junior staff and an initial 20% for senior staff, with an additional 10% pending improvement in student enrolment. The announcement was made by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francis Igbasan, during a Christmas Carol event held on the university campus in Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State.
Professor Igbasan addressed three crucial aspects—staff salaries, infrastructural development, and student enrolment. He affirmed the university's commitment to staff welfare, citing the salary increment as evidence. The Vice-Chancellor also disclosed the commissioning of two halls of residence this year, with two more nearing completion. However, he acknowledged persistent accommodation challenges, highlighting the conversion of a staff quarters block into a student hostel. To address this, he called for support from individuals and organizations to contribute to the construction of additional student hostels.
Expressing concerns about student enrolment, Professor Igbasan revealed that the university admitted approximately 400 students in the current academic session, falling short of their set goals. He urged staff and management to actively participate in enrolment efforts, emphasizing the university's appealing courses and programs.
In recognition of outstanding contributions, the Vice-Chancellor presented Excellence/Productivity Awards and Special Letters of Commendation to both senior and junior staff during the Christmas Carol. Six staff members received cash prizes of N50,000 each for Excellence/Productivity Awards, while three others received Special Letters of Commendation.
