Meet the OAU Graduate Who Created an Android Watch Face That Tells Time in Yoruba

Moyinoluwa Adeyemi, a Computer Science graduate from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), revolutionized the tech world with her creation of an Android watch face that tells time in the Yoruba language. A Software Engineer at Swifta Systems and co-organizer at Google Developers Group, Adeyemi's breakthrough was born from a simple but profound idea that struck her one Friday evening after work.

While glancing at a clock, Adeyemi asked herself, "What if it could tell the time in Yoruba?" This question sparked her development of Yoruba Watch Faces by Moyin, an Android app that features watch faces designed in Yoruba, making it one of the first-ever indigenous watch face apps available on the Google Play Store.

The creation process was no easy feat. Adeyemi collaborated with friends, researched extensively, and brainstormed ideas to produce a functional prototype. After much effort, she succeeded in creating an innovative product that has continued to inspire many in the tech community.

Currently, the app offers two beautifully designed watch faces, both in Yoruba. The designs, crafted by @TheVunderkind, showcase a man and a woman dressed in traditional Yoruba attire, blending culture with technology. These watch faces are compatible with all screen types, including chin, square, and circle designs, ensuring accessibility for a broad audience.
