Montana Scholar Kolter Stevenson, Fluent in 4 Languages and Holder of 4 Degrees, Secures UK Rhodes Scholarship, Sets Historic Milestone

Kolter Stevenson, a remarkable young scholar hailing from Amsterdam, Montana, has achieved a historic milestone by securing the prestigious UK Rhodes Scholarship to pursue his master’s degree at the University of Oxford.
Kolter, currently a student at the University of Montana in the United States, is notable for being the first student from his university to receive this scholarship in three decades. He is among 32 American college students selected as 2024 Rhodes Scholars.

"It’s an honor to represent the State of Montana. I share this award with my entire team who supported me in this journey. I’m still taking in the news," Kolter remarked upon receiving the scholarship.
At the University of Montana, Kolter is pursuing four bachelor's degrees concurrently in Management Information Systems, Finance, International Business, and a certificate in Big Data Analytics. His linguistic abilities are equally impressive, as he is fluent in English, Spanish, Russian, and Norwegian.
Reflecting on the significance of language proficiency, Kolter emphasized, "It’s a gift and a blessing when you’re able to talk to someone in their language. The cultural learning is just much deeper, and when you can switch to their language, there’s tenfold the understanding."
Kolter’s academic pursuits are complemented by his dedication to learning Russian at the university’s College of Humanities and Sciences. Additionally, he holds the distinction of being a Presidential Leadership Scholar in the Davidson Honors College at the University of Montana.
Beyond academia, Kolter actively contributes to his community by serving as a Professional Ski Instructor of America at the Yellowstone Club and volunteering as a firefighter and emergency medical technician with both the East Missoula Rural Fire District and Frenchtown Rural Fire District.
In a recommendation letter from the University of Montana, Kolter was praised for his leadership qualities, intellectual acumen, diverse interests spanning renewable energy, globalization, languages, culture, and data analysis.

Expressing gratitude for the support he received, Kolter acknowledged, “I am only sitting here as a Rhodes because of the incredible faculty, mentors, and community families that I have.”
