Nasarawa State Governor visits FULafia, promises improved security presence

The Governor of Nasarawa State, Engineer Abdullahi A. Sule, has advised management of institutions of learning in the state to be proactive in the issue of security and develop measures to curtail unwanted circumstances.

Specifically, Sule, who spoke during a visit to the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), called on the institutions’ administrators to initiate measures to improve level of security awareness among students.

Sule, who visited FULafia soon after a security breach occurred in an area close to the University where students live, promised to increase the level of security presence in and around the two campuses of the University, saying that his administration would, working with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), construct security outposts and provide vehicles for security personnel to patrol the areas.

He, also, promised to finish the construction of a students hostel being constructed by the Nasarawa State Government which was yet to be completed in the Permanent Site Campus of the University.

Governor Sule lauded the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Lafia, Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, for his quick response to the report of security breach around the University.

Earlier, while welcoming the governor to his office, Abdul Rahman outlined measures initiated by the University to guarantee the security of lives and property of students and staff of the University among which, he said, were constitution of the security committee and students welfare committee.

Additionally, Abdul Rahman said that his administration was in constant contact with the landlords whose houses were occupied by students with a view to protecting the rights of and ensuring security of the students.

Abdul Rahman appealed to the governor to assist the police with patrol vans to regularly move around areas bordering the campuses, saying that “if this is done, criminals will be scared and they will be forced to flee from the areas.” 

At the end of his visit to the University, Governor Sule, accompanied by Abdul Rahman, inspected the hostel under construction.
