National Universities Commission Sends Accreditation Teams to Al‑Ansar University, Maiduguri

Al‑Ansar University, Maiduguri (AUM) hosted high‑level accreditation teams from the National Universities Commission (NUC) on Friday, 28 November 2025, to evaluate the Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) and Nursing Science programmes within the College of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Acting Vice‑Chancellor Prof. Fanna Inna Abdulrahman welcomed the delegation at the university’s Senate Chamber on Baga Road, expressing gratitude to the NUC for its continued support of academic quality. She highlighted the rapid growth of AUM’s health‑science offerings and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to producing competent, ethical healthcare professionals.

During a courtesy session, university officials presented an overview of AUM’s establishment, mission, academic achievements and strategic plans for health‑related education. The NUC panels subsequently conducted a comprehensive inspection of facilities supporting the two programmes, including the Medical Laboratory Complex, science and nursing laboratories with skills‑simulation rooms, classrooms, lecture theatres, staff offices, the university library and e‑library, ICT centre, and other key academic and administrative spaces.

The teams also toured the university’s permanent site along Gubio Road to review ongoing infrastructure development for the College of Medicine and Health Sciences. Additionally, they visited the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) — where AUM holds an active Memorandum of Understanding for clinical training — underscoring the strong partnership that provides students with high‑quality practical experience.

Speaking on behalf of the NUC delegation, team leaders thanked AUM for its hospitality and noted that the accreditation exercise assessed curriculum design, staffing adequacy, equipment, and infrastructural support against NUC’s minimum academic standards and professional benchmarks.

In her closing remarks, Prof. Abdulrahman thanked the NUC teams for their constructive engagement and pledged the university’s continued dedication to excellence in medical and health‑sciences education, quality assurance and national development. The visit marks a significant milestone in AUM’s journey toward becoming a leading centre of innovation, professional training and healthcare advancement in Nigeria.
