NECO Awards Scholarships to Top Performers in 2022 and 2023 Examinations

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has honored outstanding candidates by awarding scholarships to the six best performers in the 2022 and 2023 National Gifted Examination (NGE), National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE), and the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). This prestigious recognition, known as the "Registrar's Award for Excellence," was announced by Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi during the council's inaugural Productivity Award ceremony in Minna.

The best-performing candidates for the 2022 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) were Asiru Ahmed Opeyemi and Obidibo Chioma Blessing, while Okafor Chima Christian and Benson Ifebube Chelsea received the same accolade for the 2023 SSCE. In the BECE category, Akintola Samuel Oluwadaresimi and Onochie Chiamada Francis were recognized for 2022, and Ekwueme Ikechukwu Excellent and Owuye Faheeza Oluwakemi for 2023.

Furthermore, the best-performing candidates in the National Common Entrance Examination were Bokare Lemuel Ogheneyobre and Chika Ugu Anastasia. The Registrar also extended awards to gifted children, with Njoku Obinna Adrian and Anikwu Princess Kamsiyochukwu among the beneficiaries.

Professor Wushishi emphasized that this initiative aims to encourage a culture of excellence and healthy competition among staff and students. The awards, categorized under various sections, include Good Governance Award, Best State Co-ordinator of the Year, Most Hardworking and Dedicated Staff of the Year, and Certificate of Service to Retirees.

Instituting the Scholarship award for the best candidates, NECO plans to cover the registration fees for Basic Education Certificate Examination and Senior School Certificate Examination. This inaugural event marks the beginning of an annual tradition, showcasing the council's commitment to celebrating exceptional achievements in education.
