Neighboring Community Leaders Commend BUK’s Impactful Development Initiatives
Community leaders surrounding Bayero University, Kano (BUK) have praised the institution for its impactful initiatives, including scholarships for indigent students, admission opportunities, and support for local businesses. During an interactive session on March 21, 2025, they commended Vice-Chancellor Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas for his commitment to youth development and urged the university to expand employment opportunities for local youth.

Community leaders from neighborhoods surrounding Bayero University, Kano (BUK) have lauded the institution for its significant contributions to education, youth empowerment, and local economic growth. The commendation came during an interactive session between the university’s management and community representatives on Friday, March 21, 2025.
The leaders praised BUK’s scholarship schemes for indigent students, increased admission opportunities for their wards, and the university’s supportive environment for small businesses. They specifically acknowledged the efforts of Vice-Chancellor Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, describing his leadership as visionary and committed to fostering youth development through quality education and community engagement.
While appreciating the university’s initiatives, the community heads called for expanded employment opportunities for local youth to further enhance economic empowerment. Responding to their concerns, Professor Abbas reiterated the importance of the annual forum, emphasizing its role in strengthening ties between BUK and the host communities.
He noted that the university remains dedicated to addressing societal issues such as youth restiveness, phone snatching, and thuggery. To this end, he revealed that BUK has established a specialized research team to investigate the root causes of these problems and propose long-term solutions.
Professor Abbas reaffirmed the university’s commitment to community welfare, highlighting ongoing efforts in employment creation, student admissions, and local business support. He stressed that education remains a key tool in combating unemployment and social vices, urging community leaders to continue guiding young people towards meaningful development.
Earlier, the Registrar, Malam Haruna Aliyu, welcomed the community leaders and noted that the interaction is a longstanding tradition observed annually during the month of Ramadan.
