Bayero University Kano Reaffirms Zero-Tolerance Policy on Cultism and Vices
Bayero University Kano (BUK) has reinforced its zero-tolerance policy on cultism and social vices, with Vice Chancellor Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas warning that offenders will face expulsion.

Bayero University Kano (BUK) has reiterated its unwavering stance against cultism and other social vices, emphasizing severe penalties for offenders. Vice Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, issued the stern warning during a meeting with the newly elected Amir of the Muslim Student's Society of Nigeria (MSSN) BUK Branch on Thursday, March 20, 2025.
Professor Abbas emphasized that any student or staff member found engaging in cultism or related vices would face automatic dismissal or expulsion from the institution. He underscored that BUK remains committed to molding students into responsible members of society, noting that degrees are awarded based on both character and learning.
Highlighting the detrimental impact of cultism, drug abuse, and other vices on individuals and the broader society, the Vice Chancellor commended the MSSN for its role in promoting a peaceful university environment. He urged the student body to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or activities that could threaten the institution’s integrity.
"We are here because of the students. It is our duty to protect them, as their parents have entrusted them to us. Anyone unwilling to abide by the university’s rules by engaging in cultism and other vices will be expelled without hesitation," Professor Abbas stated.
He reiterated that BUK is a cult-free institution and that any attempt to introduce such negative influences would not be tolerated. The Vice Chancellor congratulated newly admitted students, encouraging them to remain focused on their studies to ensure timely graduation.
During the event, the outgoing Amir of MSSN, Malam Musa Sulaiman Rabiu, expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor for his continued support. As a token of appreciation, MSSN presented Professor Abbas with an award recognizing his dedication to their cause.
The newly elected Amir, Malam Muhammad Salihu, pledged to collaborate with the university’s management to further its growth and development. He reaffirmed MSSN’s commitment to being a partner in progress, ensuring a conducive learning environment for all students. Professor Abbas assured that the university remains devoted to maintaining a peaceful and orderly campus, urging all students to contribute positively to the institution’s values and principles.
