Tanitoluwa Adewumi, a 10-year-old Nigerian prodigy, has captured international attention by becoming the 28th youngest National Chess Master in the United States, achieving an impressive record-breaking feat by accumulating more than the required 2200 points.

In 2017, Tanitoluwa and his family, seeking a better life, moved to the United States from Nigeria, facing challenging circumstances and residing in a homeless shelter in New York City. Introduced to chess at the shelter, Tanitoluwa discovered his passion for the game, and within a year of starting his chess journey, he secured victory at the United States National State Chess Championship.

The young chess champion's extraordinary talent attracted widespread recognition, leading to the launch of a GoFundMe campaign that successfully raised $254,000 from amazed citizens. With these funds, the Adewumi family secured a better home and supported Tanitoluwa's ascent in the chess world.

Participating in the United States National Chess competition, Tanitoluwa achieved a chess rating of 2,223, surpassing the required 2,200 points to be awarded the National Chess Master title by an impressive 3 points.
