Nigerian Universities Nursing Students' Association (NUNSA) BUK Chapter Welcomes New Students with Orientation Program
The Nigerian Universities Nursing Students' Association (NUNSA) at Bayero University, Kano (BUK) Chapter, recently organized an insightful orientation program for newly admitted UTME and Direct Entry (DE) students.
The event, filled with guidance, mentorship, and interactive activities, aimed to acquaint the newcomers with the department's expectations and foster a sense of belonging.
The orientation program featured distinguished guests, including dedicated lecturers from the Nursing department, alumni, and students from various levels. Nr. Ahmad Sagir, the President of NUNSA BUK Chapter, extended a warm welcome to the freshers and other honored guests.
Mallam Abdulrashid, the Sub Dean of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences (FAHS), offered valuable advice to the students. He shared essential do's and don'ts, provided insights into successfully navigating the department, and highlighted the opportunities awaiting them.
Prof. Saleh Garba Ngaski, the Head of the Nursing Department (HOD), was ably represented by Dr. Umar Yunusa. He enlightened the audience on the significance of dedication and commitment to the program. Prof. Ngaski also emphasized the journey that lies ahead for the students and the potential certificates they can earn upon graduation, urging them to make a commitment to graduate successfully from the department.
Mallama Khadija, the departmental examination officer and BNSc coordinator, guided the students on various criteria for academic progress. She expressed her well-wishes for their academic journey.
The orientation program wasn't just about serious discussions; it also included entertaining games like the "fastest finger" and cup games to engage the students and make the experience enjoyable.
A significant lecture was delivered by Mallam Mahfuz Haddad on the pressing public health issue of "Menace of Psychoactive Substance; role of the student in identification, management, and prevention." The lecture covered various forms of drug abuse, causes, complications, and solutions.
The Chief Clinical Instructor, Level 100 Coordinator, and other alumni offered mentorship advice emphasizing the importance of both character and learning in nursing. They stressed the significance of empathy, humility, and compassion with high moral values, instilling a sense of pride in being part of one of the best Nursing departments in Nigerian universities and the second most competitive course at Bayero University, Kano.
The entire Executive Committee of NUNSA BUK Chapter expressed deep gratitude and appreciation to its members for their dedication in making the orientation program a memorable and enriching experience.
