NOUN Imo Study Centre Reopens After Arson Attack
The centre, located in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area, was set on fire on September 30, 2024, following rumors that it would be used to house internally displaced persons.
Academic activities have resumed at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) Community Study Centre in Ezeoke Nsu, Imo State, two months after the facility was destroyed by hoodlums.
The centre, located in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area, was set on fire on September 30, 2024, following rumors that it would be used to house internally displaced persons.
Dr. John Onyemauche Oparaduru, Acting Director of the centre, credited the quick restoration of the facility to the leadership of NOUN Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters, and the support from both university management and the local community. He stated that the centre was now fully operational, allowing students to participate in the ongoing 2024 pen-on-paper examinations.
Students, initially concerned that their studies would be disrupted, expressed joy at being able to take their exams in the restored facility. Oparaduru praised the local community’s efforts and Prof. Peters’ decisive leadership, which he said was vital in ensuring the centre’s rapid recovery.
