NLNG, NCDMB Delegation Visits MAU Yola to Assess Centre of Excellence Project

Nigeria LNG Limited and Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board paid a courtesy visit to Modibbo Adama University, Yola as part of efforts to assess the progress and operational readiness of the Centre of Excellence in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), an intervention project sponsored under the partnership between NCDMB and the University.

The delegation was received by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibrahim Umar, who appreciated the visit and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to partnerships that promote research, innovation, and academic excellence.

The Vice-Chancellor stated that the University Management has continued to play its part in ensuring the successful implementation of the project by providing the necessary support and creating an enabling environment for the Centre to operate effectively.

He noted that although substantial equipment and facilities have already been provided for the Centre, some aspects of the intervention, particularly the remodeling work within the facility housing the Centre, are still awaiting completion.

The Vice-Chancellor also expressed gratitude to NLNG for the donation of professional chairs valued at a significant amount, describing the intervention as a major contribution toward strengthening research capacity, innovation, and specialized training within the University.

Speaking further, Professor Ibrahim Umar recalled that one of the major challenges identified during the initial project assessment was the issue of inadequate power supply needed to support uninterrupted research and laboratory activities within the Centre.

He announced that under the current administration, the University has successfully integrated the facility into its solar power system, ensuring stable 24-hour electricity supply to support research activities and the smooth operation of the Centre.

The Vice-Chancellor further appealed for flexibility in the utilization of funds attached to the project to enable the University address other critical needs related to infrastructure development, procurement of additional equipment, and other academic facilities that would enhance the effectiveness of the Centre.

In her remarks, the General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development at NLNG, Dr. (Mrs.) Sophia Horsfall, who led the team, appreciated the University Management for the warm reception and explained that the purpose of the visit was to assess the readiness of the Centre of Excellence in Health, Safety and Environment ahead of the provision of furnishing and additional equipment earlier promised as part of the intervention.

Responding to some of the requests presented by the University Management, she emphasized that the organization remains committed to ensuring that all interventions and resources are utilized strictly for their designated purposes in line with approved guidelines.

Following the meeting, the delegation, accompanied by members of the University Management, proceeded to inspect the Centre of Excellence in Health, Safety and Environment, currently housed within the University’s Central Laboratory complex, to assess the level of progress made so far. The team was briefed by the Director of the Centre, Prof. Bashir Aliyu. 

The team also toured the University’s solar power plant, where they witnessed firsthand the institution’s investment in sustainable energy infrastructure designed to support teaching, research, and innovation.

The visit further reflects the growing reputation of Modibbo Adama University under the leadership of Professor Ibrahim Umar as a forward-looking institution committed to research excellence, innovation, sustainability, and strategic partnerships that contribute to national development.
