NMCN Raises ABUAD Nursing Admission Quota

The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has increased the admission quota for the Faculty of Nursing at Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD) from 190 to 300 students per session. This decision, announced in a letter by NMCN's Registrar, Dr. Faruk Abubakar, acknowledges ABUAD's high-quality education, well-equipped facilities, and effective practical training.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has approved an increase in the admission quota for the Faculty of Nursing at Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), from 190 to 300 students per session. This development was confirmed in a statement by the Director of ABUAD Corporate Affairs, Tunde Olofintila, citing a letter from the Council’s Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Faruk Abubakar, dated July 18, 2024.

Dr. Abubakar praised ABUAD for its highly qualified nursing lecturers and well-equipped facilities, including clinical sites that offer effective practical training for students. He stated, “ABUAD is one of the standout institutions providing high-quality nursing education. Leveraging on these strengths, I am pleased to inform you officially of the increase in students’ enrolment to 300 (from 190) students into the nursing programme of the Faculty of Nursing, ABUAD. The council is confident that the dedicated faculty at ABUAD will effectively accommodate this increase while maintaining the high regulatory standards expected.”

ABUAD Chancellor, Afe Babalola, expressed his delight over the increased quota, highlighting the university's commitment to providing quality and functional education. He stated, “The university is living up to its vision of establishing a university that will institutionalise quality and functional education, teach Nigerians how a university should be run, and raise a new generation of leaders that will change society for the better.”

During the 9th induction ceremony of 95 graduating students of the Faculty of Nursing Sciences in Ado-Ekiti, Babalola noted that since the maiden convocation in October 2013, ABUAD has graduated 1,420 students who are making significant contributions as agents and leaders of reformation in their fields.

The increase in the admission quota is expected to expand access to nursing education for aspiring individuals, further solidifying ABUAD’s reputation as a leading institution in nursing education.
