NNPCL to furnish, equip ABU Centre for Inland Basins Studies

It would be recalled that the national oil company had approved the construction of the Centre, and it was commissioned in March last year upon completion.

The NNPCL’s gesture was part of the outcome of a visit to the Group Chief Executive Officer of the oil company, Mele Kolo Kyari, by management staff of Ahmadu Bello University led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala.

The ABU team was at the NNPCL Towers, Abuja on Thursday (20th July, 2023) essentially to thank Kyari and entire management of the company for the project at the North’s premier university.

Issues discussed at the meeting centered around the continuation of the subsequent phases of the project in order to derive the desired value from the completion of the construction works on the edifice.

They also discussed how NNPCL could further strengthen the foundation of the Centre through a research grant donation to support studies on inland basins and other related areas.

The Centre, when fully furnished and equipped, will provide a world-class university-industry platform for research and training that can reflect current best practices within the petroleum industry across the complete exploration-production spectrum.

The research-based programmes of the Centre are focused on Nigerian inland basins and their associated energy resources, with the aim of developing the next generation of hydrocarbon explorers.

Those on the Vice-Chancellor’s entourage were the Director, ABU Centre for Inland Basins Studies (CIBS), Prof. Umar Adamu Dambatta; Dean of Engineering, Prof. I.A.M. Dabo; Director, Directorate of University Advancement, Prof. Sani Abba Aliyu; and Head, Department of Geology, Prof. M.L. Garba.
