Northwest University Kano Conducts Successful Eye Screening Exercise in Partnership with Vision Spring

Northwest University Kano, in collaboration with Vision Spring, has successfully conducted a five-day eye screening exercise for its staff and students. The initiative, which took place from February 17th to 21st, 2025, aimed to promote eye health and well-being within the university community.
A total of 708 participants benefited from the screening, which was spearheaded by the University Health Services under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa. The exercise was overseen by Dr. Bilal Sharif, Director, University Health Services, and Dr. Muhammad Nafiu, a Medical Doctor from the University Health Services.
The screening results revealed significant insights into the visual health of the participants, with 190 individuals having normal vision, 197 requiring medication for various eye conditions, 289 receiving prescription glasses, and 32 referred for further medical evaluation.
Vice Chancellor Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa commended the collaboration, emphasizing its importance to the university's vision for a healthy academic environment. "This exercise is a reflection of our commitment to the well-being of our staff and students. Healthy vision is crucial for academic and professional success, and we are grateful to the Vision Spring team and our University Health Services for making this possible," he said.
