Northwest University Kano VC Presents Awards to Best Graduating Chemistry Students
The Vice Chancellor, Northwest University Kano, Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa, has honoured the best graduating students of the Department of Chemistry during a special award presentation ceremony held in his office.
The event, which took place following the recently concluded 2nd Combined Convocation Ceremony of the University, was organized at the instance of the Vice Chancellor, who, through the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Dr. Ibrahim Musa, invited the department to present the awards.
In attendance were senior staff of the Department of Chemistry led by the Head of Department, Professor Salihu Kiyawa, who was represented by Dr. Salihu Sani, alongside Dr. Rabiatu Mustapha, Malam Abubakar Sulaiman Ado, and Malam Yahaya Ahmad Tijjani.
During the ceremony, plaques of excellence and a cash prize of ₦25,000 each were presented by the Vice Chancellor to the following award recipients:
Kamal Sulaiman Garba – Best Graduating Student (2018/2019 session)
Ali Abdullahi Musa – Best Graduating Student (2019/2020 session)
Nazifi Yahaya Tsoho – Best Graduating Student (2020/2021 session)
Asma’u Aliyu – Best Graduating Student (2022/2023 session)
Sa’adatu Salisu Muhammad – Best Graduating Student (2023/2024 session)
In his remarks, Professor Kurawa congratulated the students for distinguishing themselves academically, stressing the importance of hard work, perseverance, and integrity in their future endeavours. He reminded them that excellence in education is not only a personal achievement but also a contribution to society.
Reflecting on his own journey as a student, the Vice Chancellor stated that he had also benefited from similar recognition and pledged to continue supporting students in that regard. He announced that henceforth, his office will be sponsoring awards for both the best Level 300 student of Chemistry and the best graduating student of the department each year, to encourage a culture of academic excellence.
Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Kamal Sulaiman Garba expressed appreciation to the Vice Chancellor for his continuous efforts to uplift the University and thanked him for both the recognition and the words of encouragement.
Similarly, Dr. Salihu Sani, representing the HOD of Chemistry, conveyed the department’s gratitude, describing the gesture as an inspiration for students and a demonstration of the Vice Chancellor’s commitment to excellence.
