NOUN Vice-Chancellor Commends Emevor Community for Transformational Study Centre Initiative
He stated that the initiative would have a profound and long-lasting impact on the community, its surrounding areas, and students of the university.

The Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Professor Olufemi Peters, has praised the leaders and people of Emevor Community in Isoko North Local Government Area, Delta State, for their vision and generosity in establishing a Community Study Centre. He stated that the initiative would have a profound and long-lasting impact on the community, its surrounding areas, and students of the university.
Peters made these remarks during the inauguration and handover ceremony of the permanent site of the Emevor Community Study Centre to NOUN on Thursday, August 8, 2024. Expressing his admiration for the project, Peters said, "We are overwhelmed by the hospitality of the Emevor people. We thought we were coming to see a small structure. We never knew it would be a magnificent edifice such as this."
He praised the community for their dedication and investment in the project, noting that their efforts would benefit not only Emevor but also neighboring communities. The Vice-Chancellor urged the community leaders to hand over the property titles to NOUN as a symbol of their full donation of the centre to the university.
Professor Chris Akpotu, President-General of the Isoko Development Union (IPU) Worldwide, assured that the study centre would be well-protected and pledged to mobilize the local population to take advantage of the educational opportunities it offers.
Comrade Teddy Jon Edoso, President-General of the Emevor Progressive Union (EPU), highlighted the importance of education to the Emevor people and recounted the community's journey to establishing the study centre, which was entirely funded by Emevor Kingdom's sons and daughters.
Emeritus Professor Godwin Sogolo, a former governing council member of NOUN, reflected on the centre's ten-year history, praising its significant contributions to expanding knowledge and access to quality education in the region through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) for NOUN students and the broader community.
The ceremony, which included the formal inauguration and handover of the newly completed multi-functional building to NOUN, was attended by all the principal officers of the university, except the University Librarian, as well as prominent figures from the Isoko nation.
