NOUN’s Self-Learning Approach Gives Graduates Edge in Job Market – Ettu

The Centre Director of the Port Harcourt Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Dr. Theresa Ucheoma Ettu, has highlighted the competitive advantage NOUN graduates have over their counterparts in conventional universities, thanks to the university’s self-learning model.

Speaking at the Students’ Forum on Friday, November 8, 2024, Dr. Ettu emphasized that the “do-it-yourself” learning approach, which encourages students to take responsibility for their education, has equipped them with skills that make them stand out in the job market. She noted that unemployability is not an issue for NOUN graduates, as they are well-prepared for the workforce.

“Any graduate who passed through NOUN and did what was expected of him/her cannot be unemployable. NOUN graduates always stand out in their chosen fields,” Dr. Ettu said.

Dr. Ettu appealed to students to be patient with recent glitches on the university website, assuring them that the management was working to resolve the issues.

She further commended the Vice-Chancellor of NOUN, Prof. Olufemi Peters, for holding a nationwide meeting with students to address their concerns. “The gesture of the Vice-Chancellor is a testament to how the university values its students,” she added.
