NSCDC, FUTA Set to Strengthen Partnership for Campus Security

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command, has expressed readiness to collaborate with the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) to enhance security on and around the campus under the Federal Government’s Safe School Response Initiative, established in 2014.

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command, has expressed readiness to collaborate with the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) to enhance security on and around the campus under the Federal Government’s Safe School Response Initiative, established in 2014.

The announcement was made by Deputy Superintendent of Corps Folashade Olakanse, Coordinator of the Safe School Response Coordination Centre, during a courtesy visit to FUTA Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, on Monday, March 9, 2026.

Deputy Commandant Olakanse highlighted the critical role of information in preventing and responding to security threats, urging the university community to remain informed and vigilant. She explained that the Centre’s mandate is to safeguard schools at all levels, prevent attacks, and gather intelligence, stressing that the NSCDC collaborates with communities and stakeholders to achieve these objectives.

She called for strengthened collaboration to deter individuals with ill intentions, emphasizing the Corps’ commitment to ensuring the safety of students, staff, and campus infrastructure. Olakanse also appealed for continued support from the university to maintain a secure environment.

In response, Professor Oladiji welcomed the NSCDC team, reaffirming FUTA’s longstanding cooperation with security agencies. She stressed the importance of collective efforts in enhancing campus security and preventing potential breaches, reiterating the university’s commitment to the safety of its community.
