NSUK Forges Strategic Partnership with Nigeria Geological Survey Agency to Bolster Research and Mineral Exploration
In a strategic move to further advance institutional development and research excellence, Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), is set to collaborate with the Nigeria Geological Survey Agency (NGSA). This followed a courtesy visit by a delegation from the Agency to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, Fellow; UNESCO, ACLS, FIIFP, CBER.
The visit aligns with the Vice-Chancellor’s mandate and vision of fostering impactful partnerships that will strengthen the University and sustain its ranking as a leading centre of academic excellence.
Speaking during the visit, the Director-General of the Nigeria Geological Survey Agency, Professor Olusegun Omoniyi Ige, expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor for the warm reception and described the proposed partnership as both timely and strategic. He noted that it was a privilege to collaborate with NSUK, which he described as a renowned citadel of learning and “home” to him. He further observed that the collaboration was particularly significant given Nasarawa State’s motto, “Home of Solid Minerals,” which, according to him, makes the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) even more meaningful.
Professor Ige explained that NGSA’s unique mandate is mineral exploration for Nigeria’s development, adding that the partnership with NSUK would not only enhance academic research, teaching, and learning but would also establish practical frameworks for the exchange of knowledge, ideas, technical support, and professional synergy. He emphasized that beyond the signing of an MoU, collaboration remains a critical factor for institutions seeking global competitiveness, describing such partnerships as a win-win venture.
In her response, the Vice-Chancellor warmly welcomed the NGSA delegation and expressed profound appreciation for the opportunity to collaborate. She stated that the MoU would open up broader areas of exploration and utilization capable of advancing the University, Nasarawa State, and Nigeria as a whole. Professor Liman commended the Director-General’s passion for teaching, research, and learning, noting that the partnership would also extend to other areas such as agriculture, mining innovation, and the development of empirical solutions within the solid minerals sector.
She concluded by congratulating both NSUK and NGSA on what she described as a bold, historic, and symbolic step towards strengthening their research capacity and national development impact.
Highlights of the visit included the formal signing of the Memorandum of Understanding by the heads of both institutions, as well as the symbolic presentation of an official letter to the Director-General of NGSA, Professor Olusegun Omoniyi Ige, appointing him to deliver pro bono lectures at the University. The event concluded with group photographs to commemorate the historic collaboration.
