NSUK Hosts 7th Annual International Conference on Islamic and Development Studies

On Monday, 28th October 2024, the Department of Islam and Development Studies at Nasarawa State University hosted the 7th Annual International Conference on Islamic and Development Studies (AICODES 2024). The conference, themed "Islam, Environmental Pollution and Climate Change for Sustainable Development," took place at the SB Mohammed Auditorium of the School of Postgraduate Studies.

The event was officially opened by Professor Musa Inuwa Fodio, the former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and current Vice-Chancellor of ANAN University, Kwall, who served as the Chairman of the occasion.

Notably present was Professor Sa'adatu Hassan Liman, the former Head of the Department of Islamic Studies and current Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, who acted as the Chief Host of the conference. 

The keynote address was delivered by Professor Ahmad Bello Dogara from the Department of Accounting at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Additionally, Professor Abdulwahab Muhammad Jami'u Elesin, the Head of the Department of Islamic Law at Kwara State University, Malete, served as the Guest Speaker, presenting insights in Arabic.

Goodwill messages were conveyed by prominent figures, including Professor Adam Ayuba Binchi, Dean of the Faculty of Arts; Professor O.A. Omotosho from the Department of Islamic Law at Nasarawa State University; Dr. Salisu Dahiru, former Director-General of the National Climate Change Council; and Professor Muhammad Tanko Aliyu, Director of the Centre for Security Studies, Head of the Department of Islamic Studies, and Chief Imam of FULafia Central Masjid.

This year’s conference aimed to foster dialogue and explore solutions to pressing environmental challenges facing the Islamic community and beyond.
