NSUK Signs Strategic MoU with NAEC to Advance Nuclear Science Research and Capacity Development

Nasarawa State University, Keffi, NSUK, has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding with the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission, NAEC, to strengthen collaboration in nuclear science and technology for education, research, and national development.

The agreement was signed on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at the NAEC Headquarters in Abuja. It establishes a framework for cooperation in joint research, capacity building, manpower exchange, shared use of laboratory facilities, workshops, information exchange, and leveraging of international collaborations.

The Vice-Chancellor of NSUK, Professor Sa'adatu Hassan Liman, who facilitated the partnership, described it as a major milestone in strengthening institutional relations between the University and NAEC.

Speaking during the engagement, Professor Liman emphasised the potential of the peaceful application of nuclear science and technology in advancing education, research, agriculture, healthcare, and economic development. She expressed optimism that the collaboration would create new opportunities for NSUK researchers, academic staff, and students while contributing to sustainable national development.

Under the MoU, the institutions will also work toward the establishment of a Centre for Emergency Preparedness at NSUK.

Receiving the Vice-Chancellor and her delegation, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NAEC, Engineer Dr. Anthony Inalegwu Godwin Ekedegwa, described the partnership as strategic and mutually beneficial. 

Dr. Ekedegwa highlighted the importance of the peaceful application of nuclear technology to national development, particularly in medicine, agriculture, and water resources, and reaffirmed NAEC's commitment to providing the necessary support for the successful implementation of the agreement.

The partnership is expected to deepen NSUK's research capacity, broaden access to specialised scientific facilities and expertise, promote knowledge exchange, and equip students and researchers with competencies relevant to emerging technological and developmental needs.

The ceremony concluded with the formal signing of the MoU by the leadership of both institutions, the presentation of NSUK souvenirs to the NAEC Chief Executive by Professor Liman, and a group photograph to commemorate the partnership.
