In a significant development for Salem University Lokoja, Kogi State, the National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted full accreditation to five new academic programmes. This announcement was made by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Alewo Johnson-Akubo, during a press briefing in Lokoja on Friday.

According to Prof. Johnson-Akubo, the accreditation was conveyed to the university via a letter dated June 6, signed by Abraham Chindusu, Acting Director of Accreditation, on behalf of Mr. Chris Maiyaki, Acting Executive Secretary of NUC. He highlighted that this accreditation follows the full accreditation granted in 2022 to seven existing courses, including BSc programmes in Computer Science, Information Technology, Geology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, and MSc/MBA in Business Administration.

The newly accredited courses, all within Salem University’s College of Education, include Business Education, Education Computer Science, Education English, Educational Management, and Social Studies.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Prof. Johnson-Akubo stated, "Only last year, we received approval from NUC to commence PhD programmes, aimed at both Nigerian citizens and international students, to enhance global education standards." He emphasized that this accreditation is a testament to the university's commitment to producing globally competitive graduates poised to drive national development.

He further added, "With the robust infrastructural framework at Salem University, we are well-equipped to accommodate more students across our various departments."

The Vice Chancellor attributed the success to divine grace and acknowledged the support of the Chancellor, Archbishop Sam Amaga, in achieving full accreditation for "virtually all" programmes offered across the university’s seven colleges.
