The victory was formally announced during a courtesy visit to the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Otoabasi Akpan, on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at the Main Campus in Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin.
Prof. Akpan hailed the athletes for elevating the University’s national profile and applauded their determination, particularly the achievement in the 5000m Race Walk by Edidiong Samuel, which earned the institution its medal. He reaffirmed his administration’s intent to scale up sports development, citing sports as a strategic lever for socialisation, professional advancement, and overall well-being.
As part of a broader repositioning agenda, the Acting Vice-Chancellor announced plans to establish a full-fledged Directorate of Sports, independent of the Students’ Affairs Directorate. He also promised certificates and incentives to motivate athletes toward superior performance in future competitions.

He disclosed that AKSU ranked 53rd out of 91 participating universities, fielding a lean but committed squad of ten students. He expressed optimism that the contingent size would grow as the University scales up its sports infrastructure.
Delivering the vote of thanks, the Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. Dominic Ekpo, recognised the Vice-Chancellor’s unwavering support and affirmed that the students’ discipline and performance had further enhanced AKSU’s visibility and reputation.

The event was attended by key University stakeholders, including the Chairman of the Sports Committee, Dr. Ifiok Ufia; the Head of the Directorate of Information, Public Relations and Protocol, Mr. Gabriel Otu; staff of the Sports Unit; and students.
