NYSC Oyo Hosts Vibrant Cultural Carnival with Royal and Retired Director Attendance

The NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Iseyin came alive with a rich display of Nigeria’s cultural heritage during the Cultural Carnival Day for the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course. Held on September 20, 2024, the event was graced by the distinguished presence of the Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Sefiu Olawale Oyebola, and the Retired Director of the NYSC South West Area Office, Mr. Oluwole Amusan.

The carnival, a celebration of Nigeria’s multicultural identity, was officially opened by the NYSC Oyo State Coordinator, Comrade Odoba Abel Oche. In his address, Comrade Oche highlighted the significance of the cultural carnival as a platform to showcase the beauty and diversity of Nigeria’s ethnic groups. “The cultural carnival is not only a way to celebrate our diverse population but also a means to preserve our cultural heritage for future generations,” he said. He emphasized that preserving culture is vital for securing the future of the nation.

The Head of Socials, Mr. Deji Lasaki, also spoke during the event, underscoring the role of culture in uniting the country. “Culture is a bedrock of our tomorrow, and our strength lies in our diversity,” Mr. Lasaki remarked. He commended the NYSC for dedicating a day to celebrating culture, reflecting its importance in fostering national unity and understanding.

During the carnival, each platoon presented a unique display of their assigned ethnic group’s traditions, including dance, dress, music, and food. The presentations also included brief histories of the represented ethnic groups, providing insight into their traditions, religion, and marriage customs.

Results of the Competitions:

The highlight of the carnival was the talent showcase by various camp units. The Medical Team, Red Cross, Band, Orientation Broadcasting Service (OBS), Man O’ War, and the Music Band each presented unique demonstrations of their work, adding an engaging and educational element to the event.

The Cultural Carnival not only celebrated Nigeria’s rich traditions but also fostered a sense of unity and pride among the corps members, reinforcing the importance of cultural appreciation in the NYSC experience.
