NYSC Provides Free Medical Services to Kogi Residents

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kogi State offered free medical services to underprivileged residents of Lokoja. The medical outreach is part of the NYSC Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD). The programme includes diagnosis and treatment, minor medical procedures, and referrals of patients. Drugs, eye glasses, and other medical consumables are also provided free of charge.

NYSC Provides Free Medical Services to Kogi Residents

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kogi State offered free medical services to underprivileged residents of Lokoja on Wednesday, as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare accessibility in rural areas.

The medical outreach, which happened at Maigari place, Lokoja, is part of the NYSC Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) programme.

The Kogi State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr Femi Osungbohun, highlighted the importance of the initiative. “The NYSC-HIRD is a platform for contributing towards promoting the wellbeing of indigent persons at the grassroots by granting them access to free and qualitative healthcare,” he said.

Osungbohun further explained that the programme, launched in 2014, is conducted on a quarterly basis with the aim of increasing access for the benefiting communities. He proudly reported that “so far, over two million persons have been attended to by the NYSC medical teams under the HIRD platforms.”

Osungbohun urged the people to take advantage of the free medical services and thanked the Maigari of Lokoja for his moral and financial support for the programme. He also expressed gratitude to the government and people of Kogi for their participation in the NYSC-HIRD and commended the corps members for their tireless efforts towards the programme’s success.

The Maigari of Lokoja, Alh Ibrahim Kabiru Gambo, represented by Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar, praised the NYSC for their efforts, especially towards the indigent in Lokoja. “We are grateful to NYSC because we have never witnessed this kind of gesture in our communities before. This will go a long way to impact on the health of our people,” he said.

Beneficiaries of the programme were screened for high blood pressure, diabetes, eye problems, malaria, and other health challenges, and were provided with free drugs.
